Walk for a Purpose

The Westminster community (years 11 and 12) will be partaking in a 14.6km walk to school on the morning of the 4th of April. The walk will commence at 5:45am from Henley Square before moving to Glenelg, Somerton Park, and then finishing at Westminster School. This walk is for such an important cause, and we encourage Westminster families to get around it and support this initiative. Activities will be held on the Westminster oval at lunch time for years 7-10 to further involve the school community in this fundraising event.

How it Started
Westminster began its student "Walk with a Purpose" in 2022. Geography teacher Adam Burford had visited a village in Tanzania, Africa as part of studies in International Development where they had no local school. Students walked a daily 14 kilometres - each way - a three hour walk, subject to several dangers, including wildlife. Tanzeed was launched to build a school to spare them this daily trek.
Westminster Chaplain Rev Phil Hoffmann realised that these students lived the same distance from their schooling as he did from Westminster and so resolved to walk to school sharing their walk. Westminster students have joined Rev in great numbers and through sponsorship of families and friends, raised over $35,000 in the past three years, contributing to new classrooms, water supplies and toilet facilities.
